IPSWICH NAMED A SMART21 COMMUNITY FOR 2015

The City of Ipswich has been named in the Intelligent Community Forum’s Worldwide Smart21 of 2015.

Recognising communities around the world that have shown progress in their attempt to make the leap to Intelligent Community Status, Ipswich was one of four Australian communities to be named in the list of 21 communities.  Ipswich Mayor Paul Pisasale said he was excited and proud Ipswich had again been recognised as a Smart21 Community.  “This is the third time the City of Ipswich has been named a finalist in the Smart21, having been recognised in 2011 and 2012,” Cr Pisasale said.  “We are now in contention for the prestigious designation of Intelligent Community of the Year which will be announced in June 2015.”   Cr Pisasale said the 2015 Smart21 theme was Revolutionary Community, which was a perfect description for the City of Ipswich.  “Back in 1995 Ipswich took a huge step towards the future creating Global Information Links and becoming the first local authority to provide internet access.   “Now we have university campuses, fast population growth, thriving development and award winning master-planned communities with technology infrastructure at its heart.”
