Daring thieves recently stole the huge ornamental heart out of the Lovers Lane Bus Shelter which sits astride the Brisbane Valley Highway at Ironbark. Claiming to be the ONLY LOVERS LANE in Queensland, the spot has been developed into a symbolic stopping off point for young lovers and couples renewing their vows. What started as a bit of dilemna back in the 1990s for Cr David Pahlke, has developed into a very romantic and photogenic site. The Lovers Lane street sign was continually being stolen. So a special welded version was made and prickly Bougainvillias planted to deter possible thieves. Then came the bus shelter, the garden bed, and the symbolic heart. There are further plans for a table and shelter setting to be installed.
PS The original heart has not been located or the thieves identified.
