IPSWICH City Council has approved an application for a new telecommunications facility to be established at Rosewood. The approval covered the erection of an Optus tower on a 32.42ha site at 53 Upper John St occupied by a single residential dwelling.

Optus lodged the application for the tower to improve mobile phone coverage in Ipswich’s western suburbs, more specifically for Rosewood.

The 30m high tower, designed to upgrade 3G wireless broadband technology, is located adjacent to the Rosewood Water Reservoir. The new facility would help to boost the signal for mobile phones in the area. This will help to overcome blackspots and service difficulties being experienced.

Costing several hundred thousand dollars, the facility is expected to be completed and operational within three months.
