Bridge being rebuilt

January 2010 the Calvert Western Creek bridge is being total rebuilt.
– Location Gipps/Hiddenvale Rd
– 8/10 Weeks Construction Time
– Total Cost of repairs $350,000
– Scenic Rim Council performing works

The Crewleader working on the bridge estimates that the bridgework will not be completed until the second week in February.
Originally, I had hoped the bridge would have been ready before the end of the school holidays. Unfortunately this is not possible.

As with all timber bridge reconstructions, until you start pulling the bridge apart, you do not know what you will find. Several of the piles are more deteriorated than we expected. In particular two piles on the northern abutment have dry rot to a depth about 2m below ground level.

I apologise to residents but I have little control over the actual progress Of works. The Christmas shutdown did not help either
